When tragedy strikes, can GoFundMe campaigns cause more harm than good?

Recently an insurer argued that gifts via GoFundMe meant they shouldn’t have to pay out on an insurance claim at all.

Before considering creating fundraising campaigns such as GoFundMe, it is important to determine whether there is an insured loss, and attempt to claim your insurance first to avoid double dipping.
